Our Alliance is Launched – with a bang!

On the 29th June 2010 the Wales Alliance for Citizen Directed Support was launched in Hope Community Church Newtown. The event started with a count down and messages from people trying to change their lives and services from across Wales, these stories of change were greeted by applause and an explosion of confetti canons.

Over 150 delegates and potential Alliance members attended, these people represented a wide range of citizen groups, a large number of voluntary sector provider organisations and half the local authorities of Wales. Throughout the day there were presentations and workshops about the work currently taking place to make Citizen Directed Support a reality in people’s lives.

In the afternoon the potential members considered the new constitution for the Alliance and a large number of people nominated themselves and others for the Alliance Council.

The day ended with a brilliant panel question and answer session, with a panel drawn from the audience.

So what happens next?

We agreed to

  • Hold elections for our new Alliance Council over the next few weeks drawn from the nominations recieved from members.
  • Prepare for our Special General Meeting of the Alliance on the 25th November 2010 when we will formally agree our constitution.
  • Continue to support the development of new ways of working and living across Wales in line with our shared Principles.
